Today I’m featuring my quilt Pastelmania from my book Quilt Batik! I wanted a quilt in the book that used pre-cut strips (Jelly Roll, or Bali Pop, are brand names.) I also wanted to have a quilt that used the beautiful range of pastel batiks. This quilt ended up filling both requirements!
The blocks are quite simple, being just rail fence blocks, with a few solid blocks thrown in for interest. I’ve always been intrigued by having a quilt set “on point“, where the edges seem to float over the edge. It took a little math to figure out how to do it, but luckily for you, I already did the math for you!
Then I had all the little ends of the strips left over, so I made a pieced inner border with the 2 1/2″ squares. I love the result, and those lovely, soft colors! Some of the pastel batiks look like sherbet, which makes it yummy, too!

I hope you like it! It would be pretty in any kind of fabric, and easy, using pre-cuts. Give it a try in your favorite fabrics!
