With it being February, I thought I’d share my quilt Have a Heart from my first book, Fresh and Fabulous Quilts.
This quilt started as a fat quarter pack that came into the quilt shop where I worked. It was the Moda breast cancer awareness line, where they use different designers to each do a fabric design. I fell in love with it immediately! I loved the pinks, and all of the designs. It was a bit expensive, at the time, so I waited. For my birthday, my employers gave me a gift certificate, and my friend and work partner, Mary, gave me one, too, so I could finally buy it.
I wanted to do a combination of appliquéd hearts, and paper-pieced hearts. I did a little reverse appliqué in the heart center, and I loved how they turned out! Then I made 3 different sizes of paper-pieced hearts and arranged them throughout the quilt.
For the borders, I used a stripe for the inner border, then I wanted to use the different values of pink to make a pieced border. The lengths are random going from light to dark. Then the outer border, and there it was!
