I’ve promised, I’ve hinted, and finally it’s here! Introducing the Hey Mama! Sew Along. This will be a block of the month piecing project, including sashing and finishing instructions. This would be a great tutorial sew-along for beginners, or anyone that loves piecing!
Today, I’ll be giving you the yardage requirements, and I will be posting each block during the 4th week of the month. I will always include a .pdf version that you can print off, if you would like, and you can always catch up with older blocks, as they will stay available for download.
Now, for the fabric! I used the Moda line, Mama Said Sew, by Sweetwater. (That’s sort of where I got the name for my sew-along.) This line is a couple of years old, so it might not all be available any more, but there are some other great lines from Sweetwater, like Feed Company or Elementary. Or, any of your own favorite fabrics and designers would be great! Be creative!
Now, for the yardage requirements. First, a word of explanation. The amount for the blocks should be ample! I figured this yardage cutting a new strip for each block. You can actually combine strip sizes at times when making the complete quilt. I used fabric yardage, but an equivalent amount of fat quarters would work fine.
(Yardages are based on 42″-wide fabric.)
5 1/2 yards assorted prints for blocks
7/8 yard print for sashing
1/2 yard print for sashing squares and star points
3/4 yard print for inner borders
1 yard print for outer border
So, get shopping, get ready, and look for the first block coming in two weeks! (Don’t forget the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 10 blog tour next week!)
