Hey Mama! Sew Along – Block 5

Hey, quilters! Welcome to block 5 of the Hey Mama! Sew Along. This month is a pretty simple block, the churn dash. I love this block, and it’s simplicity. We won’t be learning any new techniques this month, just using the good, old standby’s.

So, on to the instructions. (Just a reminder, the finished block will be 9″, which is 9 1/2″ before finishing.)

Hey Mama! Sew Along - block 5

Choose 2 fabrics, a background and a black.

4 rectangles, 3 1/2” x 2”

Fabric 2 (black):

2 squares, 3 7/8” x 3 7/8”

1. With a marking pencil mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 2 background squares, 3 7/8” x 3 7/8”.

2. Pair the 2 black 3 7/8” x 3 7/8” squares with the 2 marked background squares. Sew 1/4” on both sides of the marked line. Cut on the marked line and press toward the black. Makes 2 half-square triangle units per square, 4 total.
