Inside: You’ll love row 8 of the In My Neighborhood quilt-along from Melissa LaGreca of LovinglyLissa
I was never an athlete in my youth. I hated kickball. I was always afraid the ball would hit me in the face. I did get hit in the face playing softball once. But on the playground, I loved 4-square! Something about it was just so much more simple, for my simple mind.
That’s why I was so excited to see Melissa LaGreca’s fabulous row, Playground for the In My Neighborhood quilt along. It features a hopscotch, which I also enjoyed, and two 4-squares. It reminds me of my childhood.
Here’s my version (without numbers. I’ll quilt them in later.)
Here’s more about Melissa in her own words:
My neighborhood is just filled with kids. When we moved here five years ago, that was a big part of my house search. A neighborhood with kids. My children were ages 9, 6, and 2 at the time. I wanted somewhere they could play outside and have lots of friends.
We have a nice long concrete driveway and sidewalk chalk is a favorite outdoor activity. I’ve taught them hopscotch and they’ve taught me foursquare in return.
This row treasures these memories and I hope it brings you pleasant memories too. I personally love the version where the numbers are thread painted in, it really reminds me of chalk drawings.
I’ve been quilting for a very long time, just personal quilts but usually of my own design. My first pattern will be published in January 2018 in Make Modern Magazine. Please follow me on Instagram, my handle is @lovinglylissa and I also blog every now and then at lovinglylissa.com
