Inside: A creative quilt block from designer Sarah Ruiz.
I don’t know about you, but I’m more than ready for a new start. In everything. And I really mean everything! This year, staying calm in traffic, no more eating non-stop, and no bike crashes requiring a plastic surgeon for my lip. Yeah, that happened last year.
As promised, I’m starting 2018 with the first of my Designer spotlights! I’m excited to introduce you to Sarah Ruiz of Sarah Ruiz Quilts. I’m totally fascinated by Sarah, because she works for NASA! How cool is that?
Here is more about Sarah in her own words:
Hi! I’m Sarah Ruiz and I live in Houston, TX with my husband and two daughters. By day I’m an engineer at NASA supporting the space station program, but at night after my kids are in bed, you’ll find me quilting as much as I possibly can and staying up way too late in the process. Despite my very right-brained career, I’ve always enjoyed more creative pursuits, and I find that sewing combines my engineering and design skills in a really satisfying way. I love the puzzle-solving aspect of pattern design and the pure fun of playing with color and graphics. In 2017, I tackled a personal project to make and write a pattern for one barn quilt-inspired block each month, so for QuilterChic I decided to whip up a “bonus” 13th block to go along with the other dozen I’ve already made. I hope you enjoy it! For more barn quilt blocks, check out my Craftsy store.
Here is the fun project Sarah is sharing today. It is called Star-in-a-Star, and I love this block! There are so many ways to use this design.
Here is Sarah’s portfolio site. Enjoy!
With my lip on the mend, I’m ready to tackle all these new quilting projects. And maybe my bike. Maybe.
