The reason for the name of this post is that I really, really am a psychic guru! Okay, not really very often, but when I attended the HMQS (Home Machine Quilting Show) held in Salt Lake City a couple of weeks ago, I predicted a certain quilt would win the Best of Show. And, guess what? I was right! (Hence the psychic part.) Or it could have been that the quilt was absolutely amazing, especially from a long-arm quilter’s point of view.
Listing for May, 2011
After all the excitement of last week’s blog tour, it’s time to highlight some local events. Salt Lake City is the site of this year’s International Quilt Market. It is May 13-15 at the Salt Lake Convention Center, but is a trade show, so it isn’t open to the public. There are a few places you might be able to score a pass, though, if you try hard enough! I had the opportunity of attending this event in 2008 when it was in Salt Lake last time! It is tons and tons of products that you will be seeing soon in your local quilt stores.
International Quilt Market is the only wholesale trade show for quilting and soft crafts, and was founded in 1979. The fall market is always held in Houston, but the spring market travels to different cities. Here are a few photos from the fall market:
Wow, everybody! I had so many fabulous tips from all of you! Sometimes I thought, “I do that, too!” Other times, I thought, “What a great idea! I’ll have to try that!” It was so difficult to just choose 3, though, so I decided to award my prizes completely randomly!
The winners are: Nancy Sue, winner of an issue of 100 Blocks Volume 3, AnnaMcD, also winner of an issue of 100 Blocks, and Dana, winner of a copy of “Fresh and Fabulous Quilts.” Congratulations to you three, and thank you, thank you to all for your wonderful comments!
Welcome to my blog! It’s finally day 5 of the blog tour, and my turn to tell you about my block! It is called Daisy Maisy and is #229 on page 40. This is my second time participating in Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks. I had a block in Volume 1, also.
I love batiks, so my block is made with batiks. I also love appliqu├ę mixed with piecing, so that is what I decided to do! My block is a modern daisy design. I found these great red and purple batiks, that I instantly fell in love with, and combined them with a purple, spiral batik. For the piecing part, I used Thangles to make the half-square triangles. (My favorite product for making them!)
I hope you’ve had a fun week looking at all the different blogs in the blog tour! Check out today’s blogs at Quiltmaker’s Quilty Pleasures blog.
Tomorrow is my big day, so make sure you take a look, and enter to win some fabulous prizes! (Or, at least, prizes.) There will also be an announcement, so you don’t want to miss that!
