Ah, borders. They make or break a quilt, so to speak. The way you put borders on your quilt can help make your quilt more “square”, or even-sided. The following is my favorite method of applying straight borders on your quilt.

This quilt actually started out to be a queen-sized quilt for my bed in dark colors! When I was working on the book the Martingale

people were more interested in my bright quilts than the “more traditional” colors. So I set aside the darker colorway and bought all new fun bright fabrics. (You’ve got to love any excuse to buy new fabric, right?)

FAB-u-lous!

One of my favorite quilting-related web sites is FabShopHop.com. Its a fun online shop hop, which I did once. (I even won a $5 prize from one of the shops!) You have to find “the bunny” at the linked online stores. When you get them, you qualify for prizes. A fun little time-waster!

What I really love this site for, however, is its search engine. It has saved me numerous times! You can type in a particular fabric line and it will link to the store where you can purchase it. I was also looking for a particular batik that had cats on it, and I typed: batik, cats, and it found it in an online store! It has photos with the search results, too, which makes it really easy. I’ve also searched for books and patterns. Love it!

They also have videos you can watch with new products and quilting techniques. If you’ve never been here, give it a try!

Four of “my babies” are visiting Fayette, Arkansas for October at a shop called Sit’n & Stitch’n Quilts. Fayetteville is located in the scenic Ozark Mountains, north of Little Rock.

Sit’n & Stitch’n is owned by two Sisters-in-law, Kathy and Mavis. They are fulfilling their dream of owning a quilt shop together. The way the name got its name was that Kathy’s mom used to sit on her porch and whenever Kathy would call her and ask her what she was doing she would say, “Oh, I’m just sit’n and stitch’n.” They thought this would be a fun name for their shop!
